Special Case Attendance Statuses

There are scenarios where students may need to be marked with an attendance status, that has no effect on their attendance. Example may include, Long Term Leave, Exchange Programs, National Guard Excused, etc.

If a student has their attendance marked with such a status, then that session will be removed from consideration for their attendance calcuations, and may also prevent that session from showing on reports (depending on the report purpose and settings).

Note that removing a session from a student total session count, may have a slight impact on attendance percentages as their total number of sessions available to attend (which percentage calculations use), will also be reduced.

To set this type of status up, several flags should be set on the Attendance Status administration screen.

These are marked in Red below.

Additionally, it is common that these attendance statuses may not be intended for use by day to day teaching staff. To restrict the access to these statuses, the "Restricted" setting can be used. This will prevent a status from being availble for manual selection in the attendance dropdown. Please note that some permission changes may be required to enforce this. aPlus+ is happy to assist with those changes.
